School Board Recognition Month
January 2012

January is School Board Recognition Month – a time set aside to recognize the citizens who are elected by their communities to lead their local school systems. Please join us in thanking our school board members for their leadership and vision. Pictured are the 2012 Bardstown City Schools school board members. From left to right are Jennifer Shrewsbury, Robert Leathers, Margie Bradford, Michael Sloane, and Kathy Reed.
According to Brent Holsclaw, superintendent, Bardstown City Schools has been fortunate during its 104-year history to have dedicated school board members who have worked tirelessly to provide Bardstown families with an excellent public school system. “Bardstown City Schools continues to be a dynamic school system due to the vision and dedication to child-centered decision-making of our school board members,” said Holsclaw.
Recently, Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday provided insight into the importance of local elected school boards. He noted that “the school board sets the vision for the future of an education system, and then their second most important job is hiring the superintendent to implement that vision. The school board then has some pretty important jobs about setting policy to get that vision implemented."
Dr. Holliday continued, “They (school board members) are the eyes and ears to listen to the community to make sure they are meeting what the community expects from their school system.”
Thank you to our school board members!
