What is CTE
Career and Technical Education

Mission:     The mission of Career and Technical Education is to assist schools in providing students with skills necessary for a successful transition to postsecondary education or work and a desire for life-long learning in a global society.
KOSSA Testing
To Determine Career Readiness

In order for a student to be tested in a career area they must complete a certain number of courses in a given career major and then will take the "Kentucky Occupational Skills Standards Assessment " (KOSSA) within that specific area.  For each area tested students will take a 100 multiple choice question exam and complete one open response question.  In order to score proficient students must score a minimum of 70% on the multiple choice exam and score a proficient or distinguished on the open response.  Students who achieve this minimum score will receive a certificate in areas they pass. For every student that passes the KOSSA test the school will receive credit towards it's accountability and a 1/2 bonus point if they have achieved "College Readiness" status.
Career Pathways Available at BHS

The following tables outline courses & career pathways available through the Career & Technical  Education Department at Bardstown High School.  Each table outlines the sequence of courses available and what should be taken to complete a specific career pathway.  Students that complete a career pathway will receive a diploma certificate from the State Department and will be eligible to receive credit hours throughout the Kentucky Community College Network within the state.

Completion of these courses will help prepare students for a career &/or college within each career field. (Articulation Agreements are in place to offer students 3-4 college credit hours at a few colleges and universities when they pass these assessments and maintain a “B” Average.)
