What is going on in READING?
 
 
 
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Everyone is reading a book from the library (public, school, home) and will record a podcast about that book. ALSO! You’re going to listen to others’ podcasts and evaluate them.
 
WHEN IS IT DUE?
Podcasts must be recorded and posted by November 17 (we’ll show you how to do that later). Listening evaluations are due by November 22 (we’ll give you some class time to get that done as well).
 
BOOK REQUIREMENTS:
  •  The book must have chapters
  •  The book must be fiction
  •  The book must have at least 150 pages
  •  Final choice of book – no abandoning – by October 21.

PODCAST REQUIREMENTS

  • The podcast will need to be between 2 and 5 minutes.
  • You will need to share information about the book and your opinion of the book. VERY similar to your book talk but this will need to be written out and better organized.
  • You will need to have a written copy of your script prior (before) to recording your podcast. You will be given (very little) time to practice and prepare in class.
  • The language in your writing and speaking on the podcast will be easily understood by everyone. Some slang words are ok but you must remember this podcast is not only for fellow students.
  • You speak clearly in the podcast and you can be clearly understood.
  • You perform your podcast in a way that makes it interesting to you audience.
 
LEARNING TARGETS:
  • I can speak clearly in standard English in order to communicate my ideas.
  • I can be expressive with my writing by using sentence structure, grammar and punctuation in order to produce the effect and tone I want to create with my writing.
  • I can read aloud my writing with expression and tone that enhances the meaning of the text.
  • I can write using standard English and usage in order to make my text clear to my audience (fellow students and teachers). I realize the limited use of slang can be effective but must communicate with my audience in a way everyone will understand.
  • I can carefully choose my words in order to express my ideas clearly and without repeating myself.
