In 1985, when the Foundation was started, the Board of Directors' first project was to raise money to help establish the Bardstown Early Childhood Education Center for four-year-olds. At the time, the Early Childhood Center was the first preschool of its kind in the state to be a part of a public school system. Then, the Foundation also helped establish the three-year-old program.

The Foundation was there for Bardstown students by helping fund technology when having computer labs to accommodate an entire classroom of students was just a dream.

When the school system moved to a year-round academic calendar, the Foundation stepped up to provide funding for enrichment classes during breaks from school. And, the Foundation started a Strings program in 2005.  In the 2014-2015 school year, 140 students in grades 3 - 12 are part of the Strings program.

From science to social studies, from music to math, from technology to team-building, the Bardstown Foundaiton for Excellence in Public Education continues to fund projects, both large and small, in all our schools!

In 2015-2016, the Foundation is putting more than $10,000 into the STEM Initiative.

2015-2016 Major Grant Funded
STEM Initiative
In 2013-2014, the Foundation board made a three-year commitment to fund the school district's STEM Initiative.  Through STEM, students in the elementary, middle and high schools are given the opportunity to stretch their thinking and abilities in the critical areas of science, technology, engineering and math.  In 2015-2016, just over $10,000 from the Foundation will fund experiential, hands-on STEM activities, including an introduction to computer coding in the elementary school and robotics in both the middle and high schools.

Sixth and seventh grade STEM students tackles robotics, left, and a design engineering task, right.
