Third Grade Math Skills
The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe the skills third grade math teachers are working to develop during math instruction.

Student Growth Goal
By the end of third grade, all third grade students will show growth in fluently multiplying two single-digit numbers. Each student will improve by at least one level in accuracy (number correct out of 40) and efficiency (the amount of time needed to complete the assessment). The goal for all students is to reach proficiency by the end of third grade.

The following link shows the accuracy and efficiency levels and ideas for practicing multiplication at home.

Fluency Facts
Math fluency means a child's ability to understand and solve math facts easily. There are fluency standards that are expected to be reached by the end of each grade level. The fluency standards for each grade level are:

Grade 1 - Fluently add and subtract within 10

Grade 2 - Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies (know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers - ex. 7 +5)

Grade 2 - Fluently add and subtract within 100 using various strategies

Grade 3 - Fluently add and subtract within 1,000 using various strategies

Grade 3 - Fluently multiply and divide within 100
