Mini Grant Guidelines

At the beginning of each school year, teachers have the opportunity to apply for $700 mini-grants to implement programs or projects with students. The Foundation board looks for programs that are innovative and that promote academic excellence by enriching the education of children in the Bardstown City School System. 

The deadline for submitting mini-grant applications for the 2017-2018 school year is Monday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m.

Guidelines for Teachers Completing Mini-Grant Applications

  • Projects must promote academic excellence by enriching the education of children in the Bardstown City School System, although participation of students from other school systems is permissible.
  • In addition to promoting academic excellence, it is preferred that projects enhance or reinforce the regular school curriculum.  Consumables such as paper, crepe paper, disposable supplies, etc. are not to be included in grant requests.
  • The principal of the school where the majority of the project will be conducted must approve of and support the application.
  • An individual project is limited to a maximum grant of $700.  Any mini-grant application exceeding the $700 limit will not be considered.**  
  • Payment of budgeted expenditures will be made by the Foundation directly to vendor(s) upon submission of invoices.  All recipients of mini-grants must turn in invoices no later than June 15 of that school year.
  • Equipment or materials purchased with grant proceeds are the property of Bardstown City School System. 
  • The grantee will attach a decal of the Foundation’s logo to equipment or materials that are provided by the Foundation.  Decals may be acquired from the Foundation office.
  • Grant recipients are required to submit a report prior to the end of the school year detailing the expenditures of grant proceeds, describing the student population that participated in the project, and providing a brief evaluation of the project.  Photos taken during the project are helpful in assisting the Foundation in continuing its work.  Failure to submit a report to the Foundation may influence the Board’s decision to consider future requests from the grantee.

Again, added weight will be assigned to those applications that serve a larger student population, multiple grade levels, can be repeated economically in the next school year, and/or will benefit future as well as current students.

**If you have a project that is more than $700 that you would like to present to the Foundation for consideration, please call Kim Lacy at 331-8860 or e-mail her at kim.lacy@bardstown.kyschools.us. Teachers/administrators requesting major grant funding (more than $700) are asked to make a presentation to the Foundation board of directors at a meeting.
