Mr. Wilson

Welcome to 7thgrade Language Arts, Reading, and Social Studies. My name is Larry Wilson and I have been teaching for 19 years. I have a Bachelors/Masters Degree in Middle School Language Arts/Social Studies and a Rank I in School Administration. This is my fourth year with the Bardstown City Schools.  It is with great pleasure that I work with such a wonderful group of educators dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children.

I have been married for 22 years and I have three daughters.  (Sarah - college, Meghan - 10th grade, and Brooklynn - 4th grade)  Outside of school, I manage a goat farm, camp, fish, and enjoy spending time with my family. In the summertime, you will mostly find me out on a lake somewhere trying to catch the "One that got away." :)

I enjoy working with my students and I am looking forward to a great year with our incoming 7
thgraders.  I am dedicated to helping all children succeed and reach their highest potential.  In my classroom, students will work in a variety of settings, ie, large group, small group, whole group etc.  Various techniques are incorporated so that all learning styles are met for all students.

Agenda
 February-March 2014

Reading:
In our reading classes, the students will be completing practice K-PREP assessments for the next several weeks.  Each day, the students and I will be reviewing previously taught materials and practicing multiple choice, constructed response, and extended response type questions.  Our next literature unit will cover poetry.  It is set to begin in early March.

AR:  Each student must read an accelerated reader book and pass a test with 80% accuracy. This must be done before midterm and after midterm.  It is graded as two different assessments.  This is the only assessment that students may not make-up due to the length of time that each student has to complete the task.

Language Arts:
All students are completing a children's story complete with illustrations.  This book is to be written for an audience of a second to fourth grade student.  Afterwards, the next component to be covered in language arts will be on-demand practice.  This will be to allow students to get ready for the assessment in eighth grade.

Social Studies:
Students are studying the ancient civilization of medieval Europe.  The "Americas" will follow this unit.
