Mrs. Edelen
Mrs. Edelen's Classroom

Hello! My name is Mrs. Tabitha Edelen, and I will be your child’s 4th grade teacher this year. I’d like to tell you some things about myself, just as I hope to get to know all of you better throughout the year. I have lived in Bardstown all of my life and this is my eleventh year teaching at Bardstown Elementary School. I graduated from Western Kentucky University in December of 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In December of 2010, I graduated with a master’s degree in School Counseling. I also finished my Rank I in School Counseling in winter of 2012.

My husband and I were high school sweethearts and have been married for 10 years. He is a truck driver at Heaven Hill. We have four wild, country kids. Tobi is nine years old and plays baseball, soccer, and football. Our only girl, Gracie, is seven years old, and she loves soccer! Bentley is five years old and loves Legos. They all love to take care of our baby boy, Brody, who is 9 months old. He is spoiled rotten and is always on the move! Tobi will be in fourth grade, Gracie will be in second grade, and Bentley will be in Kindergarten. We live on a farm in Boston. We have four dogs, a donkey, cows, and a horse. We love to go camping and four-wheeler riding and love to go to the beach. Family is very important to us, and I will treat your children like my own.

My philosophy of education is that all students can and will succeed in a safe learning environment with support and encouragement. This is what I will provide for your child this year along with high expectations from your student. Together, we can make this happen. Mrs. Buckman and I will be team teaching this year. Mrs. Buckman will be your child’s math teacher while I will teach science and social studies.

In my experience, fourth grade can be a difficult transition for our students. They are growing into independent students, are faced with more teachers, and at times, have more homework. As teachers, we feel that we work the students to their fullest during the day so we try not to give a lot of homework. As a parent, I know how hard it is to juggle working, sports, and household duties! Your son or daughter will have a weekly homework packet due each Thursday and given on Monday. Your son or daughter may have projects throughout the year. I expect the students to read for at least 20 minutes a night. Reading is very important! Please allow your son or daughter to read material of their choice (magazines, books, newspapers, etc.). In this transition, please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns. I am here for your student and you as a parent.
