Welcome!  My name is Paola Manrique-Land and I am the Strings Orchestra Instructor at Bardstown City Schools, and I can't tell you how much I enjoy working here.  I did my studies at the University of Louisville and at Campbellsville University.  I am also a very active performer in Kentucky and several other states.  I currently live in Louisville with my husband Reese Land and my two sons Alex and Henry.

Class expectations

Music is fun and exciting to learn, but it requires hard work, dedication and discipline. As a member of the String Orchestra Class you have a responsibility to do your job well and to represent our school well at functions. In order to fully benefit from this class, your responsibilities are to be prepared and to be an active participant.

Please make sure you understand the rules for classroom behavior. Let’s work together to make this a great year for all of us!

1. COME TO CLASS ON TIME. On time means that you are in your seat and ready to begin rehearsal at the beginning of the class, not 5 or 10 minutes later.  Remember, you are coming to class not to recess.

2. COME TO CLASS PREPARED. This means that you should have your instrument, music, pencil and accessories every day. Your participation grade will be lowered per day after consistent unpreparedness.

3. BE ATTENTIVE. This means for you to listen to all instructions, even when they are being directed to another section. If you have a question, raise your hand and wait to be called upon.

4. ABSOLUTELY NO EATING, GUM CHEWING, WILL BE PERMITTED DURING CLASS. (Unless we are celebrating something)

5. DO NOT handle or use any instrument that does not belong to you.

6. At the prescribed signal or when the conductor gets in front of the music stand, all warm-ups and playing will stop immediately. This is a sign of respect.

7. DO NOT play out of turn.

8. At the closure of class the rehearsal room should be kept clean and orderly. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR INSTRUMENT IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING.TAKE YOUR INSTRUMENT HOME EVERYDAY AND PRACTICE.
