Welcome to BHS Space Camp Adventures!!
Greetings fellow space enthusiast!!  Here is the landing page for the BHS 2 Space Camp experience!  On this site you will find basic information about the specific programs that we participate in, upcoming meeting information, and anything else that you could possibly need/want to know about our trip!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and contact Shawn Boggs--either through e-mail or at school!  Hopefully you will be able to join our ranks of Space Camp alumni!!

Pathfinder Basics
Pathfinder provides an exciting introduction to Space Camp in a three day, two-night program specifically geared for groups. This immersive program allows students to learn the history of space travel through the museum artificats and simulators. This includes the early space program, as well as the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and STS space programs. Students will walk among real, full-sized rockets like the Saturn V rocket and the Pathfinder shuttle.

Students will participate in space simulators (like the Space Shot--my fav!!--G-Force, Multi-Axis Trainer (MAT), and the 6DF chair) as well as have the chance to construct and launch rockets. One of the true highlights involved the lunar mission where members assumed the roles of astronauts, mission control members, and scientists. Students were given mission manuals and are able to work cooperatively to launch the shuttle, complete the assigned mission (including EVAs--Extra-Vehicular Activiites) and safely land the orbiter via a cool splashdown maneuver.
We have had two groups from BCS to attend and graduate from this program. Graduation involves students receiving a certificate, Pathfinder wings, our team photo, and have their name badges "flipped" to designate them as a Space Camp alumnus.

We typically leave school early on Friday morning (around 7:00 am) and arrive at Huntsville around 12:30ish (CST). After a quick orientation, trainees are immediately put into the program and immersed in the many space-related activities. The schedule will have trainees working until around 10:00 pm and back up around 7:00 am the next morning to get back in on the action.  Students will stay in the Habitats located within the fenced-in camp facility that is guarded 24/7 by security.  All meals are included in the Space Camp Galley, which features the cuisine of an international member who is currently flying on the International Space Station as well as traditional fare.  This allows students to taste foods that may not normally be in their palate--but since the Galley is an all-you-can-eat buffet style cafeteria, students will not go hungry.  Many times the trainees will state that the food is pretty awesome and they had way more than they needed to eat--not bad for a group of teenagers!! :)
Advanced Space Camp
This year, we took our first group of upperclassmen on a three day field trip to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.   The program that we completed was a custom-designed for our specific group--with the idea that there will be some reurning alumni in the group who had already graduated from the Pathfinder Program.  Through this custom program, we were able to participate in a longer, more advanced space mission (Orion), try out more simulators, attend an underwater zero gravity competiion, and construct more advanced rockets.  It was truly an amazing experience!!

We depart school at approximately 7:30 am on a Friday morning, and made our way on the 4.5 hour trek to Huntsville.  This past school year, Mrs. Clark & I took 13 students on the trip--but we are anticipating a much larger number for next year's trip!!  We returned on Sunday evening...just in time to get in bed and ready for school on the next day!! :)

A sample of the schedule that we followed during this program is shown below:
