Three individuals file for school board election

Dr. Dan Finn; Mr. Franklin Hibbs, III; and Mr. Andy Stone have filed to run for the two open school board positions. The election will take place Tuesday, November 6.

The school board positions are open due to Mr. Mike Sloane and Mr. Robbie Leathers choosing not to run for re-election.

Sloane, who has been on the school board for seven years, said his decision to not run was very difficult and took a lot of thought.  “I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve the school district,” said Sloane.  “Finding the right time to step down is never easy,” he said. “Because the district is so innovative, there is always something just out ahead that you want to see to fruition, but with the quality of individuals who have stepped up to run, I feel like the timing is right.  I have nothing but the deepest respect for the school district and the people who work there.  They are true professionals in every sense of the word,” he said.

In addition to seven years on the school board, Sloane served on the board of directors of the Bardstown Foundation for Excellence in Public Education for 20 years, serving as its first chairman.

Robbie Leathers cites a new job and the need to focus his energy on his new responsibilities as the reason he is not seeking re-election. Leathers has been on the school board since 2009.  “Working as a member of the Bardstown school board has been a wonderful and educational experience for me,” said Leathers.  “During my tenure, I was blessed to meet, observe, and work with several members of this district. I wish the Bardstown City School District and its current and new board members the best.”
