Brent Holsclaw, Bardstown City Schools Superintendent, announced today the selection of Mr. Paul Bowling as the district’s Director of Personnel. A screening committee interviewed three highly qualified candidates for the position and recommended Mr. Bowling because of his vast experience with the district and with personnel matters. He will assume the position July 1 following the retirement of Mr. Joey Downs.  Mr. Bowling will complete this year as principal at Bardstown Elementary School.

Mr. Bowling began his career at Bardstown City Schools in 1996 as a math teacher at Bardstown Middle School. He then served as Guidance Counselor at the middle school before being selected as Assistant Principal at the Primary School. Bowling then returned to the middle school as Assistant Principal. In 2010, he was named principal of Bardstown Elementary School, a position he still holds.  Mr. Bowling also served 21 years in the Air Force/Air National Guard.

Mr. Bowling did his undergraduate work at the University of Kentucky and holds a Master’s degree and Rank 1 from Western Kentucky University.  He is certified in Instructional Leadership as both a Supervisor of Instruction and Principal.

The Director of District Personnel is responsible for the development and implementation of human resource policies and administrative procedures to meet the needs of the district and to comply with state and federal laws. Mr. Bowling also will oversee the management of human resource activities such as recruitment, performance reviews, benefits, training, and employee relations.

According to Holsclaw, Mr. Bowling is uniquely qualified for this district-wide position because he has been in an administrative position in each of the district’s four K-12 schools, allowing him to build positive relationships with employees across the district. “Mr. Bowling understands our school community – students, parents and staff – and will be a great asset to the district in this new position.  He presented a vision for the future to the screening committee that will continue to move the district forward while respecting our tradition,” said Holsclaw.

“I am extremely honored to be chosen for this position and I look forward to putting my experience to work for the entire Bardstown City School district,” said Bowling. “It is certainly humbling to follow in the footsteps of the outstanding administrators who have led this school district to the point we are today,” he said. “I am grateful for the opportunity and the trust the district has shown in me,” Bowling concluded.
