FOOTBALL: Tigers make plays late to clip Mustangs

LOUISVILLE — Bardstown survived a defensive slugfest in fitting fashion, with junior Deondre Boggs picking off his second pass of the game with 20 seconds left to lock up a 7-6 win at Moore.

“I am very proud of our young men who never quit throughout the game,” Tiger coach David Clark said.

Senior Voshon Livers eclipsed the 100-yard mark, including 70 big yards as Bardstown went for the go-ahead score late in the game.

Livers “put the team on his back and refused to lose the game,” Clark said.

Junior Jeshurun Obeng capped the drive with a 3-yard run with less than two minutes to play, with Devin Boggs’ extra point being the deciding margin. The junior kicker was able to make it tough on Moore following the score by putting the ensuing kickoff into the end zone.

Neither team could muster a score in the first half.

The win put Bardstown at 4-3 overall and 2-1 in Class 3A District 3 play heading into a road test at No. 2 Central (5-2, 3-0 dist.) this week. The Tigers got some help in the district standings from the team they beat last week, Waggener (3-4, 1-2 dist.). Waggener surprised previously-unbeaten Henry County (6-1, 2-1 dist.) on Friday, 20-19, in a battle of the Wildcats. Henry County currently holds a tiebreaker over Bardstown, but the Tigers could leapfrog the Wildcats with some help from Central and Moore.
