The Nelson County BackPack Program helps feed hungry kids in Nelson County

“I worry less about having enough for my kids to eat.”

“Sometimes my dad doesn’t have enough money for food, so I eat my backpack food.”

Did you know, according to Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland's Map the Meal Gap 2017 data, that 18.6% of children in Nelson County suffer from food insecurity?  That's 2090 kids!

Last year, the Nelson County BackPack Program provided 314 students in Bardstown City, Nelson County, and Head Start Schools with food bags, containing 12-15 kid-friendly, nutritious items, each week during the school year and on school breaks.

It costs $120 to provide services to a student for the school year.  The Nelson County BackPack Program is supported through a Tri-County United Way Grant and generous donations by individuals, school/church/civic groups, and local businesses and industry.

It is now easier than ever to make a donation to the Nelson County BackPack Program! Donations can be made online through Feeding America, Kentucky's Heartland website. Click on the link to to directly to our fundraising page:  All donations are credited directly to the Nelson County BackPack Program account.

Thank you, on behalf of the hungry students and their families receiving BackPack Program services in Nelson County, for your support!
